Sorry to Interrupt Your Open-Watching… But This Is Wild 👀

Sorry to interrupt your Open-watching...
But I’ve got a bunch of wild ideas I’ve been digging into, and I promise the last video I found is something you’ve never seen before. Totally new to me.
Last week we had Alex Ehlert on the podcast. I asked him about grip strength and speed... this week I happened to see he wrote an entire piece about it. 😁 Thanks Alex.
➡️ Even if many golfers can put the minimum necessary forces into the grip, being able to do so at lower percentages of max effort is likely a performance advantage.
➡️ General strength training often increases grip strength as a natural byproduct. But by simply testing grip strength alongside other strength measures, you can confirm that this is the case. If grip strength is lagging behind other areas over time, it is simple to add small doses of direct grip work to a program to address that gap.
NEW PODCAST: How pros are prepping for The Open + What to do before your next golf trip
Another fun chat with Dr Nico Darras. We talked golf trips, playing new courses, some quick takes on The Open this week, and whether it’s ever okay to buy and use a golf bag from a club you're not a member at 😂.
You're awesome! Thank you for subscribing to this newsletter and reading it every week.
As a way to say thank you we're going to randomly pick a subscriber to win this Pinned rangefinder (I've been using it all year and honestly really enjoying it!)
How do you win? Just hang out. I'll send you an email if you win 😁
Thanks Again!

Not sure why it's "Northern Ireland" and what the Irish Civil War is all about?
I'm obsessed with history podcasts and one of my favorites, The Rest is History just finished a series on the Irish Civil War, perfect timing for The Open.
This series hits different when you're about to watch golf at Royal Portrush.
Not because it's not true but because we often ignore this reality.
It’s a moving finish line.
It’s not the trophies or the status that keep him going, it’s the process.
The daily reps.
Scottie called it out for what it is. “I’m kind of a sicko… I love the work.” He admitted that golf doesn’t fulfill the deepest parts of him. Not even close. And honestly, that’s not depressing. Leaning into this is probably pretty freeing.
Because if the number one player in the world can feel that way, then maybe we can stop trying to find ultimate purpose in achievement.
Maybe the point isn’t winning. Maybe it’s showing up. Trying. Growing.
So if you hit a goal and feel kind of… empty?
You’re not broken.
You’re just human.
Just like Scottie.
🙌 Well Played: This Week’s Top Finds:
Holy crap there is so much AMAZING content for The Open. Here are my top 3 you should watch.
✈️ If you want to feel like you went on a golf trip to Northern Ireland there is no better video than this.
The R&A does an incredible job on their Youtube channel of creating some really raw content that helps you feel like your on the grounds. I'm a big fan.
Robert MacIntyre just casually dropped one of the craziest driver strategies we’ve heard.
He intentionally hits it off the toe to curve it.
“I detest hitting it out the heel. So now when I’m hitting driver, you’ll see me line up toward the toe every time.”
When the wind is blowing pretty strongly and he needs to hit a draw that holds its line, he’ll intentionally hit the ball off the toe.
He said it started as an experiment.
Someone asked him, “Have you ever tried hitting it off the toe?” At first, it felt crazy. But once he saw what it did to the ball flight, he started doing it more frequently.

I found a study + some data this week that every single golfer needs to think about. It's simple to understand and you can put it into practice TOMORROW. Here's what's in this newsletter: 35 out of 40 golfers chipped better this way. The arm-lock hybrid grip. (I'd never heard of this) 4 stats from 870,000 rounds of on-course data that might change how you think about your game VR golf is about to get very real SPONSORED CONTENT The Wrist-X: You can't fix what you can't feel. Justin Kraft showed me something that made me immediately pull up my own swing on video. There are two distinct wrist patterns on tour. 60% of pros use one. 20% use another (60+20=100% 🧐 ). Once you know which pattern you fall into, a lot of other stuff starts to click. I announced my new golf goal on IG this week. I want to win a national open... as a scratch golfer. So that means I'm going to have to go to some crazy places.
