Why does this keep happening?

I can almost guarantee you've done this.
You play great golf with your buddies. Feeling good. Then you show up to a tournament and it's like you've never held a golf club before.
My first hole of my first tournament - I three-putted from 4.5 feet and hacked it around from there. Called Coach Will Robins immediately after.
So naturally we recorded it. โโ โAlso kicking off a brand new series this week.I'm training for the US Speed Golf Open. No I don't run. ๐ We'll get into it.
In this issue:
Will's plank analogy that I can't stop thinking about. This completely reframed how I think about tournament golf.
The warm-up mistake Will caught that I guarantee most of you are making too
Chasing Opens is LIVE. New series. New goal. I'm playing in the US Speed Golf Open this summer and the training starts now.
The Garmin Fenix 8 range finder feature that's already changed how I pick shots on the course
Ralph's putting cheatsheet blew up last week. Sharing it again for those who missed it and didn't save it to their phone.

My new adventure starts this summer. I'm calling it Chasing Opens.
I want to win a national open. I don't know where this quest will take me but I know it'll be to some fun places and meeting some interesting people along the way!
The first one I'm chasing is the US Speed Golf Open in Temecula, California on July 25-26.
Problem - I don't run.
Scott Dawley runs Speed Golf USA and held the world record for a while. Shot 65 in 42 minutes with five clubs. (No bogeys, 25 putts, one-handed putting)
He commented on an IG post, I called him up, and now we're doing this.
Here's what I've learned so far:
A round is about 4.5-5 miles of running.
The current world record holder won last year shooting 73 in 41 minutes in the first round.
I love hitting drivers but the strategy here is all about knowing your ball is when you're running after it. You want a club that goes 250 and stays in the fairway.
Most people have the biggest smile on their face after their first round. Endorphins plus no time to overthink. You just play like an athlete.
I love trying new things that are outside the box.
I want to start running and generally improve my health. I just don't do much that would help my cardio.
Fascinated by the idea of hitting the golf ball with no thought.
Want to see if playing with a high heart rate helps playing golf under pressure with a high heart rate.
This series is able to happen because of the support of Garmin. ๐
For the past couple months I've been wearing the Fenix watch. Absolutely loving it.
The depth of data is crazy on the health side.
Plus it's actually really useful on the course.
Just made a little video but when you use the Garmin range finder it shows you were the pin is and front to back yardages and then it send that info to the watch so it pops up and shows you from front to back where it is on the green.

Why Tournaments Feel Like a Completely Different Sport
I played nine holes on Monday with a friend. Played great.
Then I showed up to a qualifier on Thursday and couldn't rotate through the ball for six holes. Everything went right. AND three-putted from 4.5 feet on the first hole. ๐ญ
