Skip the gym, swing faster + the 10-point shot score

I kept seeing these red spinning discs at top coaches' academies.

What are they? Why are they everywhere now?

When Eddie Fernandes showed me how he warms up with the Rotex in just a few minutes, I had to dig deeper.

So I called the guy who created them.

And feel like we have the full story now! πŸ˜‚

In this issue:

  • The 5-minute warm-up that replaces the gym
  • Why these red spinning discs are showing up everywhere
  • Bryson's big bet on AI coaching
  • The pre-shot routine you're probably skipping

Really useful to have a "Swing Thoughts organizer" so you don't forget what you're working on.

The 5 minute warm up that lets you skip the gym (and still swing at max speed)

Eddie's pitch was simple. You can get 20 minutes of gym work done in 5 minutes with the Rotex.

He took me through five exercises. I was sweating. My body was shaking. It felt like I'd just done a full workout.

I bought a set right after. πŸ˜‚

We filmed with Eddie back in January.

And as we edited the videos, I kept having questions.

  • How does this actually work?
  • Why does it feel so hard?
  • What's happening in the body?

So I called the creator, Dr. Joe LaCaze, and started digging.

This Week’s Top Finds:

🟠 McLaren launched a golf line. Yes, that McLaren. I don't totally get it but the irons actually look interesting. Here's a bit from Jake on what the new irons look and feel like.

And then a great longform Youtube video with Justin Rose and Dylan Dethier talking about the story.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”¬ James Nicolas is a beast. The level of fine tuning and awareness is incredible here. #PracticeGoals. Maybe less practice and more calibration would be the better term for it.

πŸ‹ You know I've never been a gym guy. I'm getting started learning and Beyond Power sent over this thing called a Voltra. It is so very cool. Here's my vid explaining a few things.

πŸ‘€ Bryson has some big goals/vision for Sportsbox after his acquisition.

β€‹β€œYou literally set it up on a face-on camera system, start hitting balls and you can talk through the whole range session. So by the US Open, we’ll have an ability to have a conversation with SAMI with full analysis while hitting balls. And that’ll be huge.”

The book giveaway is wrapped!

We had an epic giveaway celebrating the launch of The Scoring Edge! Thank you all for participating and supporting.

Remember 3-3-4 for your next round!

Hey quick reminder on something.

You remember the Will Robins video we did? The 3-3-4 pre-shot routine?

video preview

If you're not using it, start.

After every shot, score yourself:

Visualization (out of 3). Did you actually see the shot? Not just the target. The height. The shape. Where it lands. How far it rolls.

Feel (out of 3). Did your practice swing feel like the real thing? Were you locked in or just waving the club around?

Let go (out of 4). Did you swing free? Or did something creep in at the last second?

Add it up. You're chasing a 10.

RECENT REALIZATION: I think the most interesting part I've realized is my practice swings SUCK.

They're useless. No value added.

It takes work to make a good practice swing that is actually useful.

Thanks for hanging out this week.

We'll talk with you next week here on the newsletter!

People ask me for golf advice all the time. And I usually end up sharing a lot of the same stuff... everything I've picked up from these great coaches over the years. So I finally wrote it all down. I desperately wish I'd had this list when I was a junior golfer trying to play competitively. *plus at the end of this email I explain a new podcast series you're going to love. 😁 In this issue: Wind is a number changer, not a club changer. Here's the math. Most practice swings are useless. What...

I did not clearly understand the fundamentals of a good stock chip shot. Not sure why I had never learned this but it's been INCREDIBLY helpful. Ralph Bauer fixed that in about ten minutes. Let's get into it. In this issue: One setup tweak, way better contact on chips. 52 days out and I finally learned how to run. I can almost guarantee you've done this. You play great golf with your buddies. Feeling good. Then you show up to a tournament and it's like you've never held a golf club before. My first hole of my first tournament - I three-putted from 4.5 feet and hacked it around from there. Called Coach Will Robins immediately after. So naturally we recorded it.Also kicking off a brand new series this week. I'm training for the US Speed Golf Open. No I don't run. πŸ˜‚ We'll get into it. In this issue:...
