My Speed Plan for 2026

Last week we talked about what has happened over my speed journey the last 2 years.

TODAY... the speed plan for 2026.

(plus at the end of this email... an update on something that really cool that came in the mail that I've been working on for the past 11 months)

Here are the number goals...

Ball Speed
2026: 188 β†’ 200 (+12 mph)

Club Speed
2026: 130 β†’ 140 (+10 mph)

πŸ‘€ 😳 oh boy

Yea that might seem ridiculous but I actually think it's in reach if I can do one thing... STAY CONSISTENT.

So the question to ask yourself when you set a goal like this.

If this was the only thing I cared about for the year how would I structure my life to make sure I accomplished this.

1 - Gym 4 times a week. (with coaching from trainer)
2 - 3 speed training sessions per week (100 balls+)
3 - Spend time with long drive pros and train with them monthly.

If I could do that I can almost guarantee I'd get there.

But can I...

No.

So let's create a process plan that I can realistically do.

If I’m honest, I’ve got 4-6 hours a week. When I pretend it’s more and set a bigger goal I just don't do anything.

So in that time here's what I have to do.

  1. Weekly Speed Session: 25 minute warm up in gym + 70ish golf balls. Whole session takes 1.5 - 2 hours. Working to set personal best.
  2. Weekly Technical Session: Quick warm up and 30-40 golf balls focused on technique.
  3. 2x per week gym session: Work on strength and speed + some yoga / mobility work when possible.
  4. Always making good food choices.
  5. Massage gun, rolling, yoga as often as possible.

Some weeks will be better. Some worse. But this is something I can aim for and achieve it.

Consistency is still the hardest part for me.

I typically have the baby first thing in the morning. Then kids to school. I like working right away in the morning at the office. I've tried speed sessions mid day but get side tracked with calls and things I need to deal with.

End of the day is my best bet.

Late night in the home gym and sim.

What does help?
Deadlines.

If I know there’s a day coming where I have to show up and put a number on the board, I train differently. A big speed session. A trip. A date on the calendar where it’s obvious whether I did the work or not.

So I need to set some deadlines throughout the year.

Summer is still the hardest part.

I want to compete more. I want to practice more. And every summer, speed training is the first thing to go.

Instead of fighting that, I’m trying to accept it.

Summer isn’t for gains. It’s for maintenance.

Then push again when the calendar shifts.

Physically, the priorities haven’t changed much.

  • My legs and core still need to get stronger.
  • I need to be more explosive.
  • I need to train more stability.
  • I need to stay mobile if I’m going to chase speed without paying for it later.

That means more contrast training. More med ball throws. All the stuff I did with Kolby back about a year ago.

Another key... The basement is getting finished as I write this. I'm going to be building out a full gym, so hopefully this gets easier and easier πŸ™Œ

On the swing side, I’m refining and small baby step improvements.

  • Longer backswing.
  • Improved athletic set up
  • Better sequencing before the jump.
  • Time my ground forces better.

I also want to spend more time learning from people who live in this world. Here's a random list of folks that I'd love to go learn from this year.

  • Kyle Berkshire
  • Sasho!
  • One Stop Power Shop.
  • Chris Finn - P4S
  • Eddie Fernandes
  • Chris Como
  • Justin James.
  • TPI!
  • Martin Borgmeier
  • Kolby again!!!
  • *****who am I missing?!?! reply please!

This year is all about consistency.
It’s follow-through.
It’s doing the boring things when motivation isn’t there.

200mph feels so far away 😭

Lots of little steps.

Getting slightly better week over week.

Want to train for speed together?
I'm together a little group of folks just to stay accountable, share what's working, what's not, and all that stuff.

If you have a speed goal and want to work towards it let's do a 12 week sprint this winter together.

πŸŽ™οΈ The latest Fried Egg podcast with Will Zalatoris was phenomenal. What a fun listen.

😱 Rory has new irons! Feels like he hadn't switched his old ones in forever. Wonder why.

⚾️ Golf Digest had this really interesting post and breakdown of the skill sets of different players and who the ultimate 5-tool player is. Worth a look

πŸ“ˆ Super interesting data analysis on the correlation between strokes gained and speed from past podcast guest Alex Ehlert

This week I got a super exciting box in the mail.

The first test books for the guidebook that I've been working on for a long long time.

It's the best insights, summaries, drills, and worksheets from our videos from 2023 / 2024.

It's a really cool format you can use as a reference guide.

Volume one should be out in the next 4-8 weeks.

I will keep you in the loop.

We just finished up one of the coolest projects we've ever done! We ran a proper experiment.
