Mud ball math + Addictive wedge test

After telling myself, I was a "feel player" for most of my life...

I've come to realize everything is better if there's a simple math equation or data you can reference.

When I was at Ping, I wanted to ask some questions about their research on mud balls, and water affects on ball flight.

Simple equations every golfer should know. 👇

Mud Ball Cheat Sheet: What We Learned from Ping’s Test

  • Mud on left = ball curves right
  • Mud on right = ball curves left
  • Up to 30 yards of movement just from mud
  • Mud evenly spread = goes straight but shorter

Dew & Rain = Distance Loss

  • Moisture adds spin + drag, especially on low-loft clubs
  • 4-iron: more spin = higher flight, less carry
  • Wedges: wet face = less spin = longer carry (flyer lies)
  • Driver test: dry = 299 yds, wet = 280 yds

🎙️ I was on the Mind Factor podcast!

I had the opportunity to be on the Mind Factor podcast this past week. Was great to chat with Karl about my Road to 180 journey and everything I've been doing to gain more speed. Listen to it here.

Karl has a great app called Mind Caddie. Worth a download and something to check out as the season is getting underway.

In case you don't know: Karl Morris is one of Europe’s top golf performance coaches, having worked with six Major winners and over 100 tour pros. He’s the creator of the Mind Factor and co-founder of Mind Caddie, known for turning complex sports psychology into practical tools for golfers at all levels.

🧪 Try the Richard Bland wedge test

When I was down at The Floridian and heard Claude Harman III talk about this Richard Bland wedge test, I was instantly curious what I would score.

He went deeper on it during his podcast last week, and it’s honestly one of the most addicting practice games I've played in awhile.

I’ve been running it the last few days—my low score so far is 83. So yeah… hearing that Richard Bland shot a 29 kind of blew my mind.

Here’s how it works:

The Richard Bland Wedge Game

  • Hit 20 balls
  • Randomize yardages between 80–130 yds (Google “random number generator” or use SkyTrak’s built-in one)
  • Pick any club for each yardage and hit the shot
  • Record how far you were short or long (hit 118 on a 115-yard number = score 3)
  • If you want to be a tour pro: goal is 40 or less

It’s dead simple, and if you’ve got a launch monitor in your garage or at home, it’s an easy one to knock out.

Give it a shot. It’s way harder than it sounds but weirdly addictive.

🔧 Last week in our NEW putting video, Frederik taught me the Luke Donald putting drill.

And then this popped up on my feed! So good.

I set a new clubhead speed PR this weekend: 125 mph.

If you’ve peeked at the tracker, you’ve probably seen the extra work I’ve been putting in this spring.

Been taking the workouts a lot more seriously, and I’m pumped to see it starting to pay off.

Feeling really good about getting to 190 this year.

Maybe a little too confident? 😅

Till next week,

-Cordie
