Save on the Training Aids That Actually Work

If you want to improve your practice you need great feedback.

And training aids are one of the best ways to do that.

The Why Golf pressure plate is a fantastic way to make sure you're moving pressure well in your swing.

I was thinking the other day… why aren’t molded grips normal for every golfer to practice with?

Scottie Scheffler uses one all the time.

If he has to use it all the time, how much more do the rest of us normal people need to?

Feels like one of those things that should be obvious… but isn’t.

I think I might have to buy this one and put it on a normal club.

☕️ This might be my favorite story I’ve heard lately.

Si Woo Kim drinks so much caffeine he has to take Advil PM just to chill out.

And this was all happening on the back nine at The Players… while he shot 31. Oh, and apparently he was also watching a Man United game during the round?

His daily routine? Three coffees before 1pm, then another 3-4 Red Bulls before 9pm.

Tour Pros Never Skip This. Why Do You?

If you’ve ever watched a tour pro warm up, you’ve seen it.

Alignment sticks on the ground. Every time.

The best players in the world check their aim every single day.

The rest of us? We don’t.

It’s wild when you think about it.

The simplest fix in golf requires zero talent, just two sticks and some discipline.

The other thing you’ll spot out there? Launch monitors. Pros are obsessed with carry distance.

You don’t need a $7,000 setup either. There are good options under $800.

Honestly, you’re better off skipping the next new driver and buying a launch monitor instead.

But here’s the real secret to taking those basic tactics to the next level.

Train with awareness. Aim way left or right on purpose. Move the ball too far forward. Too far back.

Learn what wrong feels like, so you can trust when it’s right. That’s how you build skill that transfers to the course.

Awareness Drills That Actually Work

1. Alignment Extremes
Why: Build awareness of aiming too far left or right.
How:

  • Set two sticks down: target line and feet line.
  • Hit 3 balls aimed way left. Then 3 way right.
  • Notice how your swing adjusts. Then return to neutral and feel the contrast.

2. Ball Position Variations

Why: Understand how setup changes affect contact and curve.
How:

  • Hit 3 balls from your normal position.
  • Move it forward in your stance, hit 3.
  • Move it back, hit 3.
  • Observe how launch and strike change.

3. Distance Control Swings

Why: Train real carry distance control.
How:

  • Hit a full 9-iron. Note the carry.
  • Then a 3/4 swing. Note the difference.
  • Try an 8-iron with a soft swing to match the full 9.
  • Compare feels. Now you’re learning distance control.

What To Do This Week

✅ Use alignment sticks every session. No excuses.

✅ Track carry distance with a launch monitor and then WRITE IT DOWN!

✅ GAIN AWARENESS. Exaggerate the mistakes on purpose. Learn what “off” feels like.

Testing a new launch monitor.

I’ve been testing the Uneekor Eye Mini for the last month or so, and it’s been a solid piece of kit as I’ve gone from indoor-only practice to getting back outside.

Being able to toss it in the cart, drop it down anywhere, and get accurate quick numbers has been super convenient.

The kindle paper type screen is fantastic for outside use in the sun.

I saw PlayBetter has it on sale right now. If you’re looking for something that works all summer and winter, this might be the one.

Till next week,

-Cordie
