This week I sat down with LAB Golf CEO Sam Hahn to hear the full story: how sweepers went from embarrassing to essential, the tech shift that made them playable, and why he thinks we’ll see double the number on tour in the next five years.
If you’ve ever wondered whether a SWEEPER could actually make you a better putter, you need to hear this.

If you are, thank you!! If not, two taps and you’re in. A quick review would be amazing. :)
Sweeper Facts
FACT 1: In the first half of 2023, LAB Golf sold about 200 sweepers.
The Monday after Lucas Glover won back-to-back FedEx Cup Playoff events, they sold 2,500 in a single day, followed by nearly 1,000 a day for the next ten days.
FACT 2: Adam Scott’s sweeper head weighs around 512 grams. A standard putter head is closer to 350-380. That extra mass, paired with ultra-stiff carbon shafts, and no torque, is what makes sweepers feel so stable.
Mark Blackburn, #1 ranked instructor, spills all his coaching secrets
Mark Blackburn just released a new book called Coaching Code. Great read for golfers and coaches.
He tells a ton of great stories from working with his players and outlines his model for high performance.
Quick excerpt below!
when I started working with Justin Rose, he wanted to hit a consistent, tight draw off the tee, but some of the elements of his swing were making it hard for him to control his low point. During our initial work in 2022, we might have spent 70 percent of our time on swing adjustments and drills (the challenge component) and 30 percent of our time on areas where he already felt comfortable (the competence component). Justin is a relentless worker, so there wasn’t much risk of him getting frustrated. But this mixture of growth and reinforcement meant that the path to progress was clear.
As that’s happening, I’m already trying to create a process where I’m transferring “ownership” of development from me to the player. This doesn’t mean abandoning guidance or structure. It’s involving the player increasingly in the planning, execution, and evaluation of their ongoing improvement process.
It means asking questions instead of just delivering instructions.
“What patterns are you noticing?”
“How did that feel compared to what you were doing before?”
“What do you think is causing this ball flight?”
You’re inviting the player into the analytical process and validating their internal experience.
This ownership transfer doesn’t happen accidentally. It’s a deliberate progression that requires the coach to gradually release control and the player to gradually assume responsibility. I believe it creates the most sustainable form of engagement, one driven by the player’s internal motivation rather than external direction.
So many more great stories and concepts in the book. Definitely recommend grabbing a copy! Get the book here on Amazon.
I've always really enjoyed the time I've got to spend with Mark over the years.
He's been incredibly generous with his time and open-ness to share. iF you want to see the videos we did with him recently you can watch the whole playlist here. And a big congrats to Mark on staying at the #1 ranked instructor!
