Couldn't believe he led in this stat!

I was shocked when I saw the stat that Matt Fitzpatrick leads the DP World tour in strokes gained around the greens...

And he's doing it with a left hand low grip.

What the heck is going on?

We take a look today.

DEAL OF THE WEEK: Strike Wedge

Everyone has been loving the Strike Wedge after we talked about it in our latest training aid ranking video.

They're running a 25% off Black Friday sale right now. Best deal I've seen.

If you want to try one now is the time to pick it up.

Left hand low chipping secrets

Great video came out this week with Matt Fitz and Shane Lowry. Few things worth noting from it.

Matt Fitzpatrick leads the DP World Tour in strokes gained around the green with the left hand low chipping grip.

"The reason I went to the grip that I have, which is left and below right, was mainly because I was struggling from a strokes gained standpoint," Fitzpatrick explained. "My strike was inconsistent with my normal grip."

How he explains it...

The cross-handed setup keeps everything in a straight line. "From my left arm into the grip into the club. I just feel like I can move my shoulders and it stays... it feels like a putt because everything is so restricted and straightforward."

He feels like this grip removes some variables and keeps contact more consistent.

How to try it:

  • Reverse your hands: left below right
  • Keep your normal overlap or interlock
  • Use it up to 30 yards from the fairway
  • Matt talks about switching back to conventional in rough (needs more speed and steeper AOA)

Camera Tower Golf

Shane had a great comment on strategy and how he looks at approach play...

"We play a lot of camera tower golf," Lowry said. "There's always a camera tower in the middle of the green. You're always trying to hit it there."

The next level of detail here is what makes it really interesting.

"I tend to be more comfortable with a fade. So if the pin's on the left, I normally try and fade it off the pin away from it.

And then if the pin's on the right, that's when I'm kind of licking my chops where I feel like I can fade it onto the flag."

They totally understand the expectations and averages and don't have over inflated ideas of how close they should be hitting shots even from 130 yards.

💪 Been targeted by more golf exercise content lately as I'm training for speed. Here's one I've added in and love!

Here's what Tommy Fleetwood is doing pre-round this past week.

Bushnell came out with a new version of the Launch Pro this past week. Always a solid option for indoor + outdoor use.

Road to 190 carries on.

Today is day 13 of my 60 days to 190.

Had an awesome weekend session and got up to 126 club speed and 185 ball speed. Did some serious work and was super sore.

Mainly resting after that and need to start to get after it today leading into this weekend again.

Sidenote - its hard to get motivation to workout and do all this training after working all day and chasing kids around. 😳 Catch the latest update vid here.

MYTH OF THE WEEK

Myth #3: Always hit the same shot shape.

Truth: Learn to shape shots both ways.

Knowing how to curve it is a skill, and it teaches you how face and path really work.

Start with your normal swing. Just change alignment and slightly open or close the face.

You’ll learn aim, face control, and shot pattern awareness faster than hitting straight shots all day.

KEY - If you can curve it on command, you can fix it on command.

(every week we're going to share an interesting myth and truth from Dr Luke Benoit from Ryp Golf. Fascinating ideas that will make you think.)

Have a great week!
