I swapped wedges expecting a small change... I was completely wrong.

So I called one of the smartest coaches I know to figure out why.

In this issue:

  • Why the wedge everyone recommends might be wrecking your contact
  • The "80% rule" for speed training I'd never heard of
  • Every single shot from the U.S. Speed Golf Open, in one video
  • I asked 39 golfers how to climb out of a slump

Essential gear for every golfer / athlete

The Garmin Fenix 8 does two things, which is why it's on my wrist every single day.

On the course, it has tons of data. Maps for 43,000+ courses, front and back numbers, hazards, all of it. Syncs up with my range finder.

Off the course, it does everything else.
Runs, workouts, heart rate, sleep, recovery. It even tells me each morning if I've got a hard day in me or if I should ease off.

I'd be lost without it now.

Your Wedge Might Be Causing Your Bad Contact

It was time to replace my wedges, so I decided to experiment with a lower-bounce option.

I started taking massive divots. Chips felt different. Bunker shots came out completely differently.

The change was much bigger than I expected.

So I called Jon Sinclair. One of the smartest coaches, thinkers, and club fitters I know to talk about what was happening.

“I wouldn’t change your technique to fit a club. I’d fit the club to what you already do naturally.”
- Jon

In this conversation, we cover:

  • Why low bounce isn’t necessarily better for good players
  • How the wrong wedge can make a good swing produce bad shots
  • Why your home course and turf conditions matter
  • The difference between bounce and grind
  • How worn-out grooves can slowly change your technique

✈️ Took an epic trip to Idaho last week with Coach Will Robins. We got invited out by Wade from Mosaico travel to experience Tamarack Resort (was epic).

3-4 new vids coming to the Youtube channel next month.

Here's some advice I got from that trip you might need to hear if you feel like you can't feel your golf swing.

We released our last speed golf video for a while.

We just released every shot from the 2026 U.S. Speed Golf Open, as a unique way to watch the entire tournament.

If you're curious what speed golf feels like, this is as close to the action as you can get 😁

This summer I had a TERRIBLE run of scores during tournaments I cared about.

So I asked everyone on Instagram. What do do after a bad run of tournaments?

I was curious what kind of answers I'd get.

I received 39 responses. Here's how they grouped together:

  • 11: Check the fundamentals or change how you practice
  • 10: Take a break and reset
  • 7: Focus on mindset, process, or simply play through it
  • 3: Change the format and make golf fun again
  • 1: Get outside help
  • 7: No clear answer

The interesting part is how divided everyone was.

One group said to put the clubs away... Another said the only way out is through.

“The only way out is through.”

“Short break - or embrace the suck and come out the other side.”

“Eliminate all the swing-thought noise and just go up to the ball and swing with the athlete in you.”

“My golf game and score don’t define who I am.”

And then the classic 😂:

“Turn your hat backwards and put all your change in your left pocket.”

There wasn’t one universal solution, but nearly everyone suggested changing something.

Take a break. Return to the basics. Practice differently. Play more freely. Ask for help.

But is change always the answer?

Idk... Sometimes a bad stretch reveals a real problem. Sometimes you’re doing the right things and experiencing the inevitable frustration that just is golf.

Maybe you've gone through something similar.

Where did you land?

Is there a pattern telling you something needs to change...

or stay patient and keep going?

I have some more thoughts I'll share next week.

Play well,
Cordie
