I'm packing for the US Speed Golf Open right now. Playing Sat and Sunday. I'm so pumped!

We'll be posting updates on IG throughout the weekend.

Which got me looking at what's actually in my bag these days.

Few training and aids and gadgets that haven't left the bag all year you might find useful as well πŸ‘€

In this issue:

  • What actually lives in my golf bag and gets used all the time.
  • What Justin Rose gutted out of his RV to make room for a cold plunge.
  • Ryan Fox on the math he ran standing on 18 at Birkdale.
  • A driving stat that surprised me about the top 25 on tour.

I made this book for you! (yes you)

All the best info from what we make here at GolfWell in a book!

Throw it in your bag and use it as a reference while practicing.

➑️ Go get it!

Training aids I actually take to the golf course:

Of all the stuff I test and try out, these are the ones that have actually made it to the course this year.

They live in my bag.

  • Tour Aim. I use the Wyndham-Clark setup all the time now. Try it out!
  • Why Golf Putting thing. I throw this down and try to hit 5 to 10 putts before playing just to make sure I have some start line and path control.
  • Stack launch monitor. Always checking wedge numbers and playing wedge games on the Stack app.

It's so small and easy to use that I don't have to take it out to charge it or anything.

  • Resistance Bands - Downshift Bands: Go watch the Jackson Koert video and you'll know this is what I do before every round now.

I feel lost if these get taken out of my bag!! I'm using the Downshift bands.

  • Digital level - I like to test myself to figure out what slopes actually are so that I can get my green reading calibrated.

I don't think enough people practice green reading and having a level in the bag has helped me double check what I'm seeing and feeling.

This is everything that lives in my golf bag and I don't have to take out.

Small enough to be practical and portable.

I do have an entire box full of crap in my car if I really need to dig into find some more tech or training aids to work on something πŸ˜‚.

πŸ™Œ Well Played:
This Week’s Top Finds:

πŸ› οΈ Alex Ehlert had an interesting post about the top 25 players on tour and their driving length and accuracy. Worth reading his entire caption!

Interesting note for me is there are more short hitters that are accurate than long hitters that are inaccurate

πŸ’¬ Quote from LKD question on Ryan Fox's swing and why it looks the way it does.

β€‹β€œIt’s a product of having a dodgy left ankle, and that’s why it’s flared out. I’ve had a bunch of cortisone shots in there. I didn’t know if I had that much left in me if my ankle didn’t settle down.”

Justin Rose's absolutely insane Recovery RV.

I mean this is just wild. πŸ‘‡

video preview
  • The bedroom is gone. They gutted it and turned it into a wet room. Hot plunge, cold plunge, steam shower, infrared sauna.
  • His actual routine when he's short on time: red light while the steam warms up, sweat for ten minutes, then straight into the cold plunge. Whole thing takes 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Cold plunge is the one he says most guys on tour are using. Not the exotic stuff.
  • There's an oxygen setup on the spin bike. 100 liters, inflates a big bag. He uses it maybe three or four times a year when something's nagging.

What was Ryan Fox thinking on 18 at Royal Birkdale?!

Always fun to hear the thoughts about the win just a couple days afterwards!

video preview

His thought process and notes on the 18th tee are pretty interesting.

  • He was thinking about Cam Young at the Players, the tee shot Young said he was going to hit the best of his life. Same thing running through his head.

"I might only ever get one chance at this."

  • He'd rather make double trying to make birdie than play conservative to sneak into a playoff. I LOVE THAT MINDSET!!!!
  • The layup math: five iron off the tee, then five iron in and get up and down, or hit the green and two-putt from 50 feet. He said there was no way he was getting a 50-footer inside five feet, that's how nervous he was.

The putt

  • The plan was speed. He didn't want to gun it, lip out high side and leave three and a half feet to get into a playoff. (
  • "The body was everywhere." Watched the coverage back the next night and looked fine. Didn't feel fine.

Have a great week!
